Overly present in the city we take its presence for granted. An unavoidable residue between neighbors; casting shadows, glare, or haze it occurs mostly in excesses and likely anywhere it is needed. Artificial light, as the inhabitant of night, controls the immediate atmosphere of a space when the sun has ventured elsewhere. When dominating in its present it shines with a seemingly boundless radius inevitably sliding further than intended. Its absence only further enlivens the ephemeral aspects of a space and re-delineates the city.
Somehow shadows have more power at night. A glow has more residence when set apart. And a beacon of well-tamed light is more noticeable than a burnout. Most of this on accident or lacking in a rigor. Lamp stores should only be open from dusk to dawn.
